The Division:
The Division of Body Imaging, a part of the Department of Medical Imaging, at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago is a robust and highly collaborative group encompassing multiple subspecialty sections, including Fetal Imaging, Musculoskeletal (MSK) Imaging, Cardiac Imaging, Abdominal and Chest Imaging, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, and Nuclear Medicine. The division is composed of sixteen dedicated and hardworking faculty members who serve as trusted partners to our pediatric clinical colleagues.
Each section performs advanced imaging using state-of-the-art technology and innovative techniques. Within MSK imaging, we offer musculoskeletal ultrasound, whole-body MRI, and advanced imaging for tumors and vascular anomalies. Our MSK faculty work closely with the divisions of Orthopedic Surgery and Interventional Radiology to guide patient management and clinical decision-making.
The Abdominal and Chest Imaging section maintains a longstanding and collaborative relationship with Pediatric Surgery, including weekly multidisciplinary conferences and frequent consultation on complex cases. We perform advanced MRI evaluation of liver abnormalities, including congenital portosystemic shunts, liver tumors, and transplant-related conditions, in close partnership with our transplant surgery colleagues.
Our Fetal Imaging program consists of a close-knit team of faculty members who collaborate closely with fetal surgeons and multidisciplinary fetal care specialists, providing expert interpretation of fetal MRI and obstetric ultrasound examinations.
In Cardiac Imaging, faculty work alongside pediatric cardiologists to perform state-of-the-art cardiac MRI and CT examinations that inform both clinical and surgical management. Our dedicated 3D Imaging Laboratory partners closely with the cardiac imaging team while providing advanced visualization support across the entire department.
The Ultrasound section is supported by a highly skilled group of sonographers who perform specialized pediatric examinations, including contrast-enhanced voiding urosonography and contrast-enhanced ultrasound. An advanced practice sonographer provides leadership and works synergistically with faculty to ensure the highest quality of care.
In Fluoroscopy and Radiography, we utilize newly installed fluoroscopy systems that enable high-quality imaging examinations. A radiology physician assistant works alongside faculty to perform procedures and enhance operational efficiency.
The Nuclear Medicine section offers a comprehensive range of services, including PET/CT, SPECT/CT, diagnostic nuclear medicine studies, and radioiodine therapies.
Education is a cornerstone of our mission. We work closely with residents and fellows from Northwestern University as well as trainees from institutions across the Chicago area. Through mentorship, clinical instruction, and multidisciplinary collaboration, we remain deeply committed to advancing the education of future pediatric radiologists.
